The use of the term “liquid petroleum gas” can be misleading as it does not clearly indicate whether it is referring to a liquid or a gas. Snelling revolutionized the propane industry by inventing a method to bottle liquid propane gas. Today, this versatile fuel is commonly known as “bottled gas” or “bottle gas.” After three years, Snelling sold the patent to Frank Philips, the visionary behind Phillips Petroleum, for $50,000, equivalent to $1.4 million in today’s currency. This astute decision proved to be immensely profitable for Frank Philips.

How is propane made?

Approximately 90% of the propane fuel supply in the United States is domestically produced, primarily sourced from natural gas and crude oil processing. This significant reliance on domestic production highlights one of the advantages of using propane: energy independence.
